Travel diary - (Day 1) Travel from Taoyuan Airport to Taichung HSR to Miaoli county

We reached Taoyuan International Airport at 5.30 am. We didn't buy the telecom pre-paid card from the airport as the operators had not opened. We went to the basement, bought the bus tickets from UBus to Taoyuan HSR station.

The children were dead tired from the flight. They slept at the chair when we reached Taoyuan HSR Station. We bought some hot drinks from 7-eleven and sandwiches from Mos burger before boarding the train.

We reached Taichung HSR Station at 8.39 am. Our driver, Mr Liu was already there waiting for us. On the way to Miaoli, Mr Liu brought us to the Rainbow Village. 

Rainbow Village (彩虹眷村) is a small ‘village’ comprising of about 3-4 small houses. These were houses given to war veterans. The houses were initially slated for demolition. One veteran went to buy paint, and started to draw graffiti on the walls. People started to notice these rainbow color houses and petition by the people led to its temporary preservation.

 

 

 
When we reached Miaoli, our driver brought us to Long Teng Broken ridge.

After Long Teng Broken Bridge, we went to Shengxing Railway station.

Next, our driver brought us to a wood sculpture factory. As the things there were slightly expensive, we didn't buy anything.

After that, we proceed to a small restaurant called "Canteen" for lunch.

After lunch, we took photos outside the "canteen".

Next, we proceed to Flying Cow. The children were looking forward to feed the animals there. Each of us got a bottle of fresh malt milk for free. The milk tasted very nice.

First stop - we went to feed the rabbits.

We spent about 2 hours at the farm. After that, Mr Liu drove us to our homestay. We are staying at Hao Wan Jiao minsu tonight.

This is our room for the night. The kids had already jumped on the bed.

We are staying at the room where there is an attic.

Our dinner - steamboat, instant noodle, fried dumplings and xiaolong bao.
